Want to get results? Put the damn phone down!

Better yet, leave it in your car. This is probably the biggest detriment I see to progress in the gym. People pecking away on their phones, involved in meaningless chatter or worse chatter which takes their focus OFF of the business at hand:physical exercise. Maybe you thing you are too important to not be accessible? Well, if you are that important, being healthy and fit means you'll be MORE accessible for a longer time and when contacted, your head will be fresh and clear from your workout.

I once worked for an antiterrorism firm that required every employee to be available to take a call at any time 24/7/365. The only excuse for not answering your phone was that you were working out. Because my employer supported the culture of fitness, it was understood that part of being "available" meant having your head in a place ready to tackle issues.

I take my phone into the gym now only because I have some ear buds that play music via BlueTooth and my phone. My gym plays endless inane crap and the earbuds are noise cancelling. A necessary part of my gym equipment.


OK, maybe you really do need to have your phone with you in the gym, but take a moment to decided which is more important, your health or doing a Facebook update or Instagram pouty lipped, side butt pic.
